Buying guide
Choosing carpet for a London home
Most London homes we fit have a mix of busy stairs, quieter bedrooms and a living room that takes the most wear. It usually pays to choose by room rather than one carpet everywhere.
Stairs and hallways
Stairs take more wear than any other room. A dense twist or a wool-rich loop holds its shape on the nosing of each step. On period staircases a runner is popular: it shows off painted or wooden treads and costs less than full width. Ask about bound (whipped or taped) edges for a crisp finish.
Bedrooms
Here softness matters more than toughness. Deeper saxony and plush piles feel warm underfoot. A good underlay adds comfort and makes the carpet last longer.
Flats and upstairs rooms
Carpet with a good underlay is the quietest floor for the neighbours below. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease: many require a certain underlay. Tell us at the measure and we’ll quote to match.

Which areas do you cover for carpet fitting?
We’re based at our W2 showroom on Bourne Terrace and fit carpets right across London, from Paddington, Maida Vale and Notting Hill to Kensington, Marylebone, St John’s Wood and beyond. Not sure if we cover you? Call us and we’ll tell you straight away.
Is the home measure really free?
Yes. We measure, bring samples to your home and give you a written quote, with no charge and no obligation to go ahead.
Can you fit stair carpet and runners on winding or narrow stairs?
Yes. Stairs are a big part of our work, including landings, winding turns and the narrow staircases common in London period houses and conversions. We’ll look at your stairs at the measure and talk you through full-width carpet or a runner.
Do you take away the old carpet?
Tell us on the form or at the measure and we’ll include uplifting and disposing of your old flooring in your quote, so there are no surprises on the day.
I live in a leasehold flat. Does that matter?
It can. Many London leases say what must go under the flooring, often a good underlay or an acoustic underlay to protect the flat below. Check your lease or ask your managing agent, tell us what it says, and we’ll quote the right underlay.
Do you work with landlords and letting agents?
Yes. We regularly fit carpets and flooring for landlords, letting agents, property managers and commercial clients, including ongoing and contract work.
I already have my carpet. Will you fit it?
Yes. As well as full supply and fit, we offer a fitting-only service if you’ve already bought your materials.
How soon can you fit?
It depends on the carpet you choose and how busy we are, so we’ll give you a fitting date when we quote. Book as early as you can for larger jobs.
